Rachel has more than twenty years’ experience as a communications professional. She spent the first years of her career crafting output across print, radio, television and online mediums. She counts organisations such as e-tv, Radio KFM and Sky Business Television as previous employers. Rachel set up and ran both editorially and commercially, the broadcast division at Reed Business Information, the world’s largest B2B media organisation and a FTSE100 company based in London.
Rachel was recruited by the world’s largest privately held real estate services firm, Cushman & Wakefield, to be a Director in its Moscow office, tasked with building a marketing and public relations division to service a 300-strong office. Rachel later set up her own public relations consultancy in Moscow that focused on the commercial real estate and financial services sectors. Rachel returned to South Africa to launch Irvine Partners in 2010.
Hayley has over 10 years of experience as a communication specialist.
Before joining Irvine Partners, she spent five years as the Media Coordinator for the City of Cape Town. This involved working on a range of content – from media releases to radio scripts, from adverts to brochures, from speeches to opinion editorials.
She has previously worked in both journalism and retail marketing so she understands how to create engaging opportunities and can craft content that is ready for publication.
Her strengths are crisis communication, writing and editing, and project management. She specialises in bigger-picture strategic thinking, with a focus on the details.
She has a degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University.
Group Account Director
Bonny joined Irvine Partners with a range of experience in the communications field –both external and internal. Having begun her career as an English and History teacher, she sharpened her corporate communications skills in the centralised communications division at First National Bank’s head office, and subsequently worked in the public sector for a number of years. Her industry experience includes both retail and commercial financial services, compliance and education.
JHB Agency Lead
Scott has extensive media experience having worked in communications, editorial and advertising. His professional experience includes editing government and corporate websites, working with agencies and NGOs handling international communications, and as a media liaison person.
Previously, Scott was managing editor at one of the country’s most popular lifestyle websites. He has contributed to many publications as an author and editor and is a versatile writer with an understanding of how to reach a variety of audiences across multiple platforms and an appreciation for strategic communication.
Nicole is an seasoned PR professional with an extensive contact base throughout all media beats. As a strategic communications practitioner, Nicole has extensive experience across the PR spectrum, including media liaison, content strategy, media training and crisis management, along with a proven ability to communicate a brand’s message in a creative and compelling way. With a solid understanding of print and digital media channels she’s got a proven track record, working on some of South Africa’s biggest brands, NGOs and media campaigns.
Senior Account Manager
With more than 10 years of client-facing agency experience in regional account management in Southeast Asia and Central Africa, Bulelwa has a wealth of experience handling varied integrated marketing communications projects. Media-agnostic, Bulelwa has worked in PR, creative and events agencies with notable clients including Global Fortune 500 listees like Cisco Systems, SAP, Symantec, Dimension Data, Heineken and now Google.
Bulelwa is a third-culture kid who has recently repatriated back to South Africa. The Eastern Cape native obtained her Bachelor of Communications degree, with a specialisation in public and promotional communication, from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Senior Account Manager
Kelly has a Btech degree in journalism from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and worked as a motoring journalist for close to seven years before moving into marketing and PR. She has spent the last three years of her career in the hospitality and tourism industry as part of the PR and marketing teams for Cape Town Tourism and One&Only Cape Town. Over the years, she has written many press releases, articles, status updates and tweets. She recently joined Irvine Partners as an Account Manager.
Kabelo Mpyatona holds a National Diploma in Business Journalism from Birnam Business College. He started his career in journalism at Caxton’s Bedfordview and Edenvale newspaper as a junior trainee reporter and also helped launch two trade publications. Kabelo worked for a strategic marketing and communications agency as communications manager. He has worked as an account manager at a PR and reputation management agency working with name-brand clients in addition to honing his skills as a PR Executive. He has also worked as communications officer and is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree through the Independent Institute of Education SA (IIE).
Matt began his career in public and investor relations and crisis communications, niched specifically within the mining industry, where he serviced and managed a portfolio of accounts for multinational gold, platinum and diamond producers. He later returned to his photojournalism roots, entering the news media sphere for almost a decade, where he worked in a journalistic and editorial capacity for leading South African print, online and broadcast news outlets. After a two-year freelance stint as a writer and photographer for local and international clients, he returns to public relations with a solid command of the written word and insights into the changing face of digital media and visual communications.
Lauren is a former digital news junkie, having worked at News24 for 12 years where she was night online editor and led a team of content producers. Previously she worked as a content manager and sometimes field reporter at News24. She started as a nervous intern at Fin24 where she stayed for another year before moving over to its bigger sister brand. Lauren has a National Diploma in Journalism from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. With her extensive knowledge of the digital playground, she knows just what’s needed to make a story a most read.
Stuart holds a BA Hons from Rhodes University and an MA in South African literature from UKZN. He spent five years reporting on the global technology scene.
Intrigued by the intersection of technology and work, he joined Engage Me as the editor-in-chief, before coming on board as an account manager. He is a passionate runner, completing his first ultra-marathon in 2017.
Tatum brings spark, fire and laughter to her job as Irvine Partners’s traffic controller and general whip-cracker.
With twelve years’ experience in a variety of roles in retail and shipping, she decided to satisfy her desire for on-going growth by segueing into the completely unrelated, complex and stimulating world of media. She deals with clients, writers and editors with the same no-nonsense efficiency all of which is underscored by charming friendliness.
Her driving passions are people and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done.
Digital & Social Media Manager
Amandla holds a Diploma in Public Relations from Varsity College and a certificate in Digital Photography from the Cape Town School of Photography. She received her formal training in the marketing department of Old Mutual. She later worked at Media24, doing advertising in the magazine division and soon after working as group corporate social investment coordinator in the corporate division. As the CSI coordinator, she helped to launch of the company’s national CSI programme for the youth which went on to win an international award from WAN-IFRA. She explored new ventures within corporate as a communications coordinator, managing the company’s social accounts, running digital ads and assisting with the monthly newsletter.
Amandla has a curious mind and is a true believer in continuously feeding the brain. She has a long-term goal of furthering her studies and creating a positive impact in her community.
Digital Marketing Strategist
Melissa is an integrated digital marketing consultant and strategist with over 8 years of digital marketing experience. She previously established and headed up the Johannesburg branch of a leading South African digital agency after relocating from Cape Town where she headed up that agency’s digital team. Melissa’s previous work experience includes corporate-level customer service, technical account management, business development, social media and content strategy, creative direction and campaign management. She has recently been included in a list of 30 Most Influential Women in Digital Marketing in South Africa. She is a hands-on senior consultant with practical experience and specialises in technical innovation and social media.
Melissa has a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Interactive Media Production, as well as a certificate in Advanced Project Management from the University of Cape Town.
Lagos Agency Lead
Marian Balogun is a seasoned Public Relations professional who brings her strategic thrust, strong traditional media relations experience and resourcefulness to every project she works on.
She began her career with one of Nigeria’s foremost public relations consultancies, where she effectively developed and implemented PR strategies to promote brands, create visibility and achieve set objectives.
With over 6 years of experience, Marian has been able to use her exceptional interpersonal skills to manage and supervise PR activities for several international and local clients.
Kenya Agency Lead
Liz’s public relations experience in Nairobi has seen her working on everything from events publicity to communication strategies and brand management.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Moi University, and practised what she learnt for a while as an administrator, before working in retail as an operations head and brand marketer.
She keeps a lifestyle blog in her free time, where she documents her love for fashion, food and travel.
Account Executive & Social Media Assistant
Suraya comes to Irvine Partners with a background in communication and marketing, having obtained a journalism qualification from the University of South Africa.
She has previously worked in events and communication in the public sector, managed experiential marketing projects with World Design Capital and the Cape Craft and Design Institute, and handled marketing for a youth-owned agriculture start-up.
Always having her ear to the ground on local socio-political events, she also runs a small public benefit organisation called Molagodimo which focuses on promoting social cohesion and government and civic engagement. In her spare time she enjoys keeping up to date with certification, trends and changes in the social media landscape, writing content on current events and socio-political topics for Molagodimo’s blog, and baking chocolate tarts for her family as a qualified former pastry chef.
Bryan’s career started in logistics management, working as a professional photographer’s assistant in his free time. In these roles, he honed both his administration and creative skills.
He first came on board at Irvine Partners as an intern and quickly moved up the ranks to Account Executive, working on creative ideas and solutions, building media contact lists, and pitching content across clients.
Rebecca’s writing career began in the Cape Argus, Cape Times and Weekend Argus newsrooms where she reported on hard news, while also writing features, opinion pieces, food and book reviews. She has also worked in book stores to feed her love for literature, as well as writing freelance features for a number of South African magazines.
