Celebrating National Women’s Day with some Fire & Ice

Yes, we know it has noble roots and we’ve all heard the old chestnut – usually tossed around by men who think they are so clever – about the other 364 days of the year but we at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch firmly believe National Women’s Day on August 9 should be marked and celebrated… by all South Africans.
Lest we forget, the annual public holiday commemorates the national march of women in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the “pass”, special identification documents which curtailed an African’s freedom of movement during the apartheid era – led by, among others, the late Albertina Sisulu, who passed away in June.
We should remember this as we spend the day, and those leading up to it, by honouring and acknowledging the beauty and power of women – the rocks upon which our fine nation is built.
And if this means a long weekend of personal indulgence and a bit of pampering, then so be it. Heck, women work hard and deserve to play hard too. It would be rude not to, considering the government has set aside their own special public holiday.
Protea Hotel Fire&Ice! Melrose Arch is doing just that with a special Woman’s Day experience for just R1150 a night – single or double – from August 5 to 9 inclusive.
To make the package even more attractive, whether you are sneaking off on your own for some secret time out or rounding up your posse of closest BFFs for a girls’ night of note, you’ll be served a rich, decadent hot chocolate on arrival. Each guest will also receive a drinks voucher, and there will be a 10% meal discount voucher per room, to take advantage of the hotel’s sexy cocktail bar and delicious dining establishments.
While hanging out in the uber cool and trendy Melrose Arch precinct, you can perfect the art of retail therapy followed by coffee and cake at a pavement café, have a treatment at the Virgin Spa, get your nails done at L’ongle, or (and) have your hair cut, coloured and styled at Studio 9.
After a mini break like that, you’ll feel like a new woman…and ready to take on the world.
PS: Guys, you’ll score masses of brownie points for treating your lady…just saying.
