Internal Marketing – Adding value from the inside out

When it comes to marketing, we tend to view the world from the outside in. We build strategies and pipelines that directly talk to acquiring new customers and later retaining them; converting each one into loyal brand supporters along the way. But how do we take the same theory and apply it to talent acquisition and retention?

For many businesses, internal marketing may not seem like a necessity. If the product works and acquisition is good, why spend the resources, time, and budget on marketing to employees? Well, just like a customer is looking for the right company to provide a product or service that meets their needs; the same theory can be applied to people within your organisation. Creating an authentic employee-centric strategy can help retain and attract the right people to your business and, ultimately, create a genuine culture in which light shines outwardly to your customers.

Here at Irvine Partners, we believe that internal marketing is key to employee happiness. This, paired with regular check-ins, open communication across different hierarchical levels and our hybrid approach allows us to create a productive, happy and most importantly ever-evolving approach to our team.

Here are our top 5 focus areas:

Communication.
We thrive on clear and concise communication. We do this through a range of different platforms, but our favourite is via a monthly newsletter straight from the CEO’s desk. This includes an overview of the month, our triumphs, team shoutouts and upcoming and noteworthy events. We believe an authentic approach is key to have clear and honest lines of communication within the business.

Creating opportunities.

Our people are our heartbeat and we value the unique potential of each individual. We don’t just want our people to grow; we want them to thrive, and our environment is cultivated towards this goal. We are continually looking for ways to create opportunities for team members. Our most recent is the launch of the IPOfficeExchange which gives all employees an equal opportunity to fully immerse themselves into different cultures, countries and communication landscapes. The IPofficeExchange programme is funded by the business and encourages team members to grow within their role by stepping outside their comfort zones. The Irvine Partners Office Exchange Programme runs quarterly and every person in the business gets the chance to apply and participate throughout the year.

Team involvement with new recruits.

We believe that no one knows our team better than the team members themselves. That's why our team has an active involvement in our recruitment process. This allows prospective members to chat openly and freely with current team members about the culture and working life at Irvine Partners. It also empowers our employees to stand up and voice their opinions should they feel that we have a potential culture clash on our hands.

Hybrid working model & respectful working hours.
We truly understand the value of time. Our working model encourages a stable work-life balance, all whilst creating  an accountable mindset. Team members find they are productive, engaged, inspired and energised by following this model. We also respect each other's time and understand that personal time is exactly that. Unless it’s an actual emergency, we firmly stand by DND mode after hours.

We also show appreciation through time. Irvine Partners recently took the decision to reward staff with five extra leave days every year. “Our team has worked tirelessly around the clock, across different time zones all year,” says Hayley van der Woude, MD of Irvine Partners. “It was important for us to be able to show our team that we value their hard work, while also encouraging a better work/life balance. Extra leave days was a tangible way to show this.”

Celebration & acknowledgement.

We believe that tiny actions done well, become the compounding tailwind for great results. We regularly stop and celebrate those who have produced exceptional work. As a result of this ongoing acknowledgement, our team members show up, day in and day out, committed to consistent excellence.

Irvine Partners' internal marketing strategy is one we nurture and evolve, with the aim to create the best culture possible; allowing team members to be their happy, authentic selves every single day.

We’re always on the lookout for talented team members, if IP sounds like the place for you, check out our open vacancies here.
