Madame Zingara, known for her passion for finding iconic city landmarks and restoring them to their original glory, is at it again. This time she is spreading her wings out of the city centre to pump the life back into an old Woodstock neighbourhood favourite: Don Pedro, the much-loved late night venue for more than two decades, is currently being renovated and will soon re-open its doors to the Cape Town community.
“Don Pedro has long been the heart of Woodstock,” says founder and managing director of Madame Zingara, Richard Griffin, “There was no better way to extend our footprint from the city centre than with a place that has such a rich history and holds so many memories for locals and visitors alike.”
Griffin says the lusciously renovated place is dedicated to Don Pedro’s beautiful wives. “We’re turning the tables, shifting the focus from him to his wives. They’ve been a major part of what makes the place buzz and we know they will keep the good conversation alive night after night.”
Guests will get to take a step back in time and unwind after a long day while enjoying a fusion of some good old comfort food and the very best of Cape Town’s female vocalists. Whether you sit outside on the veranda or inside in the parlour you are sure to linger on well into the early hours of the morning.
“Don Pedro holds the spirit of Cape Town’s theatre goers, intellectuals, performers and artists,” adds Griffin. “Back in the 1990s it was one of a few multicultural venues that attracted a hugely diverse crowd. We are delighted to be part of the new journey.”
