He was the host of the first Survivor reality series in SA, and has starred in BBC series like Holby City. Now, Anthony Oseyemi is joining the cast of popular soapie Isidingo. But how much do you actually know about this talented actor?

1. He was raised in Britain

“I spent my youth in London, but I consider myself South African now, as I have been living here for over a decade.”

2. Teaching is his other passion

“I think if I wasn’t acting, I would be lecturing at university. I love engaging with other people and helping others to develop their skill sets.”

3. He’s worked in the British TV industry, but loves working in SA

“TV and film have been mastered overseas already – now it’s our chance to do the same and make our own mark in the media industry with the heaps of local talent we have here. There’s so much room for creativity and growth in the South African media; it’s a really exciting space to be in.”

4. Why precisely he admires Hollywood doyennes

“When you think of some of the Hollywood greats, like Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Denzel Washington or the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, what sets them above the rest is that it never feels as if they are acting. They take on the role in its entirety, and completely become the character to the point that you can’t tell the difference between the character and the person. Now that’s great acting!”

5. He’s a fan of World War Z star Fana Mokoena

“Fana Mokoena is definitely my favourite local star – I think he’s classy. And when he’s on the screen, you just can’t take your eyes off him.”

6. He enjoys our favourite TV shows too

“I love True Detective, The Fixer and Game of Thrones: the characters in the stories are so well developed and there’s always an unexpected twist to keep you hooked.”

7. He’s talented off screen as well

“I played semi pro football while growing up in London; I was part of a soccer academy during my school years. Growing up I dreamt of playing football professionally.”
