Fresh off wins in leading global marketing advertising competitions, Prezence Digital, one of South Africa’s leading digital agencies, has again come out tops with the most Gold awards at this year’s Africacom Awards.

The Africacom Awards, held in Cape Town last night, celebrate and reward excellence in the African telecoms, media, and ICT market.

Prezence Digital, noted as a leading digital, mobile web, and native and HTML application specialists in South Africa, walked away from the Pan-African awards ceremony with gold awards for its inspirational #MandelaStory campaign and the Ster-Kinekor smartphone app.

The silver, and now also gold, awards #MandelaStory has received from true international benchmarks of digital and creative quality, from New York to Cape Town, are a ringing endorsement of this pure labour of love by Prezence Digital.”

At last nights’ ceremony, the inspirational #MandelaStory campaign took top honours with gold in the Best Marketing Campaign category. #MandelaStory, going up against big-name brands such as the WWF and Greenpeace, already proved its success on the international circuit earlier this year with five silvers at the prestigious Davey and MMA Smartie awards.

Prezence Digital was also highly commended in the “Best Quality User-Experience” category for its suite of smartphone apps created for Ster-Kinekor. Additionally, the Ster-Kinekor app took gold in the “Best Smartphone App in Africa” category.

Not the first accolade given to this suite of apps, it took silver at the New York based Davey Awards, and was also shortlisted in the esteemed Meffy awards in the UK. Locally, alongside with one other brand as the only honours bestowed on apps, the Ster-Kinekor app picked up a pixel at this year’s Bookmarks awards.

The apps have been part of the mobilisation of the Ster-Kinekor brand and are available for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Symbian and Meego devices.

“The core idea behind the Ster-Kinekor app was to provide a fast, simple, and seamless user-experience (UX) with mcommerce capacity for Ster-Kinekor customers regardless of their platform of choice. With that in mind, that this app took honours in a UX category is brilliant,” explains Tim Bishop, chief technology and innovation officer at Prezence Digital.

“The Bookmark award the Ster-Kinekor app received recognised the creative and aesthetic skill which was poured into it. This Africacom award shows that a focus on creative and aesthetic aspects of an app, needn’t be at the expense of an apps true core commercial functionality, or vice versa. A proper digital offering, which is what we always look to deliver at Prezence Digital, seamlessly marries the two,” Bishop says.

“With all these international accolades coming in this year, it has been an amazing time for Prezence Digital. For Tim, who this year also celebrated his tenth anniversary of expanding Prezence Digital from the UK into South Africa, I imagine even more so.
