The 94-roomed Protea Hotel Select Emotan has opened its doors in Benin City, capital of Edo State in southern mid-west Nigeria.
This hotel represents the Protea Hospitality Group’s first presence in Benin City and forms part of the company’s plan to double its representation in Nigeria to 20 hotels within five years, says CEO Arthur Gillis.
The new hotel is located just 10 minutes away from Benin City Airport. Its location is ideal for both leisure and business travellers, conveniently situated in the heart of the city.
The hotel’s 94 bedrooms comprise 79 Standard Rooms, 8 Inter-leading rooms, 6 Suites and 1 Universally Accessible room.
This stylish hotel offers a ground floor restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, including buffet and a la carte options for lunch and dinner.
The hotel has a swimming pool to unwind and cool off, for those long hot days synonymous with the region. The hotel is also only 5 minutes away from Benin City Golf Course.
Protea Hotel Select Emotan offers one boardroom and one conference room ideal for seminars, workshops, corporate functions, cocktail parties and even product launches. The conference room can accommodate up to 50 delegates.
Gillis says Nigeria is a very exciting prospect for the Protea Hospitality Group, with the main driver for development in the West Africa region being oil and supporting industries.
“Nigeria, which was until recently predicted to overtake South Africa as the continent’s largest economy sometime around 2020, might conceivably do so by the end of 2014 because its economic growth rate is likely to be greater than 7% in 2013 and prospects for 2014 are equally good.
“The Protea Hospitality Group is taking a robust interest in Nigeria, because we believe that investing with local partners is creating a strong hospitality brand that both Nigerians and international travellers trust to deliver the best facilities and world-class service.
“We believe that Protea Hotel Select Emotan will be the first of many new Protea Hotels in Nigeria and we are incredibly proud to have opened our doors in such an economically vibrant region of the country.”
Another Protea Hotel, namely Protea Hotel Select Ikeja is currently under construction in Ikeja, Lagos, as is the country’s first deluxe African Pride Hotel, which is set to open in mid-2014.
Gillis said the Protea Hospitality Group’s portfolio of 126 hotels in eight African countries made it the largest and leading hotel group on the continent.
“We have expansion plans across the continent and I have no doubt we will continue to dominate the market in Africa because we have the home-grown hospitality industry expertise and commitment to local partnerships that have taken the brand from four small hotels in South Africa to an African Lion in less than three decades.
“We welcome Protea Hotel Select Emotan to the Protea Hotels Family and wish it many long years of exceeding GUEST expectations,” Gillis said.
